Kent Junior School Cross Country Championships

On Saturday 12th November 22 Years 3 to 6 children took part in the Kent School Cross Country Championships at a very cold, wet and windy Detling Showground. For many this was their first cross country event and it was a great shame that the weather was so atrocious! All our runners gave their best and tried hard against some very challenging competition.

Our best results came in the Year 4 Boy's event, where Elliot W came 22nd out of 207 runners. Hannah M also did exceptionally well, coming 42nd out of 129 runners. All our runners received a certificate from the organisers and will hope for better weather conditions next year!

Football and Netball reports - written by the children

Football Matches played on 16 November 2016

“The ‘A’ Team played Hildenborough at home on Wednesday. The Captain, Morgan D, told us how he wanted us to play. The first half started off with a bang with Aiden G scoring a brilliant goal. When the whistle went for half time. It was 1-0. Then the second half started and Aiden scored for us again! Owen B and Sam N got injured but we won 2-0. It was a great win for Cage Green but Hildenborough tried their best.” Report by Joel F and Owen B, 6R.

‘B’ Team “On Wednesday the ‘B’ Team played a football match against Hildenborough. It was a very tense match. After about 10 minutes Bobby B scored the first goal. Another 5 minutes of tense play and it was half time. We had a motivating team talk and then we were back on the pitch. After another 5 minutes of brilliant play, Charlie F scored with a beautiful bottom left goal to make it 2-0 to Cage Green. In the final moments of the match, Cage Green were still going strong in the final moments of the match but unfortunately, Hildenborough just slipped a goal past the goalkeeper. When the final whistle blew Cage Green had won a very enjoyable match, 2-1!” Report by Rowan S and Alfie S, 6R.

Netball match played on 16 Novembr 2016

Netball Report “On Wednesday the ‘A’ Team had a netball match against Hildenborough. It all started well for Cage Green as we scored 3 goals in the first quarter. Isabel S scored one goal and Martha scored the other two but the glory didn’t last long as Hildenborough scored 4 goals in the second quarter. It all went downhill from then because by the end of the match the score was 12-3 to Hildenborough. To be honest, Hildenborough’s passing, defence and attack out did outs. We tried our hardest but it just wasn’t enough, however, the sportsmanship we showed was excellent.” Report by GeorgiaMae and Martha, 6E

Football Matches played on 12 October 2016:

“On Wednesday Cage Green ‘A’ team played Woodlands School and it was a great match! At half time the score was 3-1 because they scored from a penalty. We had Charlie G in goal for the first half and then Jack G. It was a clean match with Aiden and Rory in defence. After half time it was an amazing game. Morgan scored another goal, making his score 4 and Riley in Year 5 scored the last one and we won 5-2!”

Report by Aiden G, 6R

“It was a very tense match for the ‘B’ team as we had to live up to the ‘A’ team score. The first goal was unexpectedly scored by Sam who was a defender which is a surprise! At half time it was 1-0 to us. We had a motivating team talk and then we were back on the pitch. After about 10 minutes the second goal was scored straight down the middle by James. Then after another 5 minutes or so, unfortunately Woodlands scored but we were still doing well because the score was 2-1 to Cage Green. As the final whistle blew we were relieved to have won the match! The final score was 2-1 to Cage Green.”

Report by Rowan S and Charlie M, 6R

Netball Match played on 12 October 2016

“On Wednesday 12th October Cage Green netball team played against Woodlands School. We got off to a flying start, with Martha scoring the first goal. Woodlands had a near miss which was great for Cage Green, as it seemed to put Woodlands off their game. Soon we had the ball in our grasp and were getting closer and closer to scoring but to our surprise the whistle blew, marking the end of the first quarter. The second quarter flew by with Isabel scoring first one goal and then another! A few minutes later Ella showed Woodlands how it was done, bringing the score to 4-0. Just before the last whistle, Woodlands scored making the final score 4-1. WE HAD WON!! Cage Green’s first victory of the season!”

Report by Isabel S and Georgia-Mae, 6E.

Well done Cage Green Football and Netball teams!

Running Club:

Running club in all weathers for KS 1 takes place on a Tuesday lunchtime.  The children really enjoy running sprints and distances today was a wet and windy day, but they all turned up raring to go!!

Hi, my name is Aimee, I’m in Year 6 of Cage Green and I am a runner.

My running journey started with a sports day at school where I won the long distance by quite a way.

The school then went on to enter the Inter-schools Cross Country race where I won a silver and bronze medal.  I also ran 22 laps of the field for Sports Relief.

With the schools encouragement I joined Tonbridge Athletic Club.  I have run in the Kent league and Kent Championship races which are very muddy and run in bad weather, but I love doing them.

I also run at Tonbridge Park Run most Saturday mornings and sometimes at Hastings, which is a 5K run.  My fastest time for this is 23 minutes 25 seconds.

I am lucky to have a ‘running buddy’, so I am allowed to do longer races.  I have run with Olympic Gold medallists Kelly Holmes and also Steve Cram at the Westminster Mile in London.

I have run a 10 K race at the RAF museum in London as well as at Barming and Dartford.  My time for this was 49 minutes.

The Mo Farah Foundation contacted me and gave me a mentor called Clieo.

I have run from Chiddingstone Castle to Hever Castle and back for the ‘Play for Beth’ Charity.

I have had the opportunity to run 2 half marathons along the river Thames.  I raised money for Parkinson’s disease.  I ran these races in under 2 hours.

I am very grateful for the School’s support and encouragement with my running.
